چکیده
Abstract We conduct a laboratory experiment among male participants to investigate whether rewarding schemes that depend on work performance—in particular, tournament incentives—induce more stress than are independent of performance—fixed payment scheme. Stress is measured over the entire course at both hormonal and psychological level. Hormonal responses captured by measuring salivary cortisol levels. Psychological self-reported feelings primary appraisals. find incentives induce response whereas fixed does not stress. This differ significantly across situations in which winners losers publically announced this information remains private. Biological measures positively correlated, i.e. increased levels associated with stronger Nevertheless, neither perceived nor elevated previous predict subsequent choice between tournaments schemes, indicating induced relevant criterion for sorting decisions our experiment. Finally, we severely beginning experiment, suggesting experience anticipation per se, potentially due uncertainties unknown lab situation. call novelty effect.

Hormonal contraception use alters stress responses and emotional memory.
Emotionally arousing material is typically better remembered than neutral material. Since norepinephrine and cortisol interact to modulate emotional memory, sex-related influences on stress responses may be related to sex differences in emotional memory. Two groups of healthy women - one naturally cycling (NC women, n=42) and one using hormonal contraceptives (HC women, n=36) - viewed emotional...
متن کاملThe transformation of hormonal stress responses throughout puberty and adolescence.
Prepubertal rats display heightened hormonal stress reactivity compared with adults in that levels of ACTH and corticosterone take twice as long (i.e. 40-60 min) to return to baseline following an acute stressor. Despite this substantial change in stress responsiveness, and the critical nature of the adolescence period of development, the maturation of the hormonal stress response from the time...
متن کاملHormonal cross-talk in plant development and stress responses
In contrast to animals, plants can continuously cease and resume growth. This flexibility in their architecture and growth patterns is partly achieved by the action of plant hormones. Plant hormones are structurally diverse compounds that act usually at nanomolar concentrations and include five groups of the so-called “classic” hormones, namely auxins, cytokinins, gibberellins, abscisic acid, a...

متن کاملThe impact of stress on tournament entry
Individual willingness to enter competitive environments predicts career choices and labor market outcomes. Meanwhile, many people experience competitive contexts as stressful. We use two laboratory experiments to investigate whether factors related to stress can help explain individual differences in tournament entry. Experiment 1 studies whether stress responses (measured as salivary cortisol...
